 Opened in 1963, Southgate Elementary School enrolls more than 500 students in kindergarten through grade five. It offers academic instruction in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The school additionally conducts classes in technology applications, fine arts, and health and physical education. Southgate Elementary School also offers English as a Second Language and accelerated reader programs, as well as bilingual education. It offers special education programs for students with various disabilities. The school has a parent-teacher association that organizes staff-appreciation functions, family fun nights and other fundraising events. Southgate Elementary School employs counselors who focus on personal, academic and social problems of students, teachers and parents.
