 Gallegos Elementary School is a Title I school that is a part of the Houston Independent School District, which is one of the largest school systems in the United States with a total enrollment of more than 202,000 students in over 285 educational institutions. The school conducts programs in bilingual, special, and gifted and talented education. In addition, Gallegos Elementary School provides the English as a Second Language program. It has a staff of nearly 35 full-time certified teachers and paraprofessionals. The school offers educational programs to approximately 600 students in prekindergarten through grade five.
