 Mikey's American Grill & Sports Bar is a family owned business started by Steven and Jeffrey Sotland. The name Mikey's was decided upon to honor their father, Michael "Mikey" Sotland. After serving his country in the Korean War, Mikey started in the restaurant business many years ago with his first establishment in Jamaica Queens named Hamburger Choo Choo. A dineresque restaurant with a train that brought you your hamburger was a huge hit for its time.After moving to Newburgh, New York and settling into the community, Mikey began a Kosher catering company called Pickwick Caterers that operated for over 20 years and was the premier Kosher caterer in the Hudson Valley. In 1985, in conjunction with his son, Steven Sotland, Mikey opened The Brewster House 1762, a fine dining restaurant in New Windsor, New York.During all these years, Mikey always maintained his day job as an insurance examiner and finally retired from the insurance field and restaurant business in 1998. Though retired, Mikey continued to work part time in the food industry Mikey, LLC's sister company, Food For Thought Catered Events in New York.A family man who worked long hours to take care of his family, Mikey had a clear vision of how to treat his customers. To this day, we continue to follow Mikey's philosophy that your customers were friends and every day you were in business was another opportunity to make a friend.
