Founded in 1905 by Charles A. Toner, Helping Hand Mission is an independently funded, faith based organization which has been serving the Philadelphia community for over 100 years. Residing in a converted Jewish synagogue just North of Center City Philadelphia, Helping Hand Mission is dedicated to supporting the needs of the "total" person. Feeding and providing clothing to those in need is but a small part of this ministry's overall endeavor which is to; facilitate the development of wholeness in the lives of homeless and disenfranchised men, women and families by providing basic needs, spiritual edification, leadership and skills training, which will build confidence and equip them to become productive citizens with a heart toward mentoring others. Helping Hand Mission services the needs of a diverse and ever growing population of individuals and families. Many of these individuals are veterans who have proudly served their country in foreign wars. Others may have recently been released from incarceration in a detention or correctional facility. Still, others may be struggling with physical and/or mental challenges, including those stemming from substance abuse. Lastly, individuals who simply may have been victims of circumstances beyond their control round out the constituency served by this dynamic organization |
