Commonly known by the short-hand name, Disciple the Christian Church/Disciples of Christ movement was born on the American frontier in the days following American independence. Honoring this proud legacy, we celebrate freedom and diversity as central hallmarks of a community of faith. We have no creed but Christ, believing that faith is grounded in a personal relationship with the One whose life and ministry revealed God's purpose for humankind. The Bible is our map and guide for that faith journey. We believe that all may come to understand scripture through careful, intelligent study, seeking always to dig beneath the obvious and discover deeper meanings. For the most part, Disciples take the Bible seriously rather than literally. Grace is a central teaching of our church. In biblical understandings, grace means unmerited favor. The Apostle Paul says, all have fallen short of the glory of God. Yet we believe that we are loved and accepted as sons and daughters of God anyway. Out of that acceptance, we believe that we are called to accept others unconditionally. Therefore, all are welcome here without qualification.Within this supportive community of seekers we purpose to grow in love of God, love of neighbor, and love of self. We seek to model God's intention for the world. To do so, we strive to demonstrate unity among all Christian believers and to work toward oneness in the global family which includes, among others, our Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist brothers and sisters. |
