Head Start, a program, owned and managed by the Portland Public Schools, provides services in partnership with families and their children. The program has various features that include parenting and child development education, transportation for most program options, meals and snacks and inclusion of children with disabilities. It also features field trips, book lending library, family involvement opportunities, advocacy, information and referrals, and vision, hearing, height, weight and developmental screenings. It offers services to more than 600 families and provides various medical, social welfare and employment services. Head Start also offers education curriculum in subjects, such as reading, writing, mathematics, language arts and science. The program is operated from Portland, Ore. |
