Chevy Chase Baptist Church Children's Center was organized in 1971 by community parents with the support of the Chevy Chase Baptist Church. It operates as an agency of the church and is governed by a steering committee composed of parents, the school director, teacher, alumni, community and church representatives, and a minister. The center offers various educational programs for preschool children to help them discover their emotional, intellectual, physical and social strengths to enable them to develop a healthy sense of identity and self-esteem. Its discovery club program helps children prepare for the future challenges of kindergarten. It additionally provides an after school program that is open to students of all ages and incorporates a curriculum that allows students to participate in hands-on activities involving science, art, drama, cooking, woodworking and music.
