Salon Roi is known to many Washingtonians as the site of the landmark mural of the legendary film star Marilyn Monroe, which graces the upper levels of the Salon s southern exterior wall, which was putted by artist John Bailey in 1980 for Mr. Roi Barnard s 40th birthday. The mural has become something of Washington landmark, reproduced in paintings and T-shirts, calendars and postcards. It is even a stop on the route of the Old Towne Trolley, a roving tour bus. Salon Roi was the first full-service unisex salon in Washington, and it is still at its original location for 39 years. In 1981, Salon Roi was named Best Salon by Washingtonian Magazine. In subsequent years, Salon Roi has continued to grow progressively, to retain existing clients, and to attract new clients of all ages.
