Massage may be the oldest and simplest form of medical care. Egyptian tomb paintings show people being massaged. In Eastern cultures, massage has been practiced continually since ancient times. It was one of the principal method of relieving pain for Greek and Roman physicians. Julius Caesar was said to have been given a daily massage to treat neuralgia. Now is an exciting time for Massage Therapy as more and more studies are publishing clinical results touting the positive effect it has on our bodies, even down to our DNA. Every day, more hospitals and clinics are employing massage therapists, and even the insurance companies are starting to get on board with massage as not only a rehabilitative, but preventative necessity. |
